Helsinki - US President Donald Trump has congratulated his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on hosting the World Cup at the start of a much-anticipated summit in Helsinki.

"I'd like to congratulate you on a really great World Cup, one of the best ever, and also on your team doing so well," Trump said. "I watched quite a bit of it."
Trump said he would discuss nuclear issues and China, as well as referencing tensions in the bilateral relationship between the United States and Russia.
"Getting along with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing," Trump said. "I really think the world wants us to get along."
