In third place, end-of-the-world film "2012" brought in 26.5 million dollars, more than double its next-runner-up, "Planet 51," with 12.6 million.
"Disney's A Christmas Carol" earned 12.2 million trailed by abuse saga "Precious" with 11 million, and military intel flick "The Men Who Stare at Goats" with 2.7 million in the number seven spot.
"Couples Retreat" earned another 1.9 million for a strong total to date of 105 million; followed by "The Fourth Kind" with 1.7 million and "Law Abiding Citizen" with 1.6 million.
