UN Security Council calls on countries to combat terrorism financing

New York - The UN Security Council passed a resolution on Thursday calling for strengthened efforts from member states to combat the financing of terrorism.

The French-drafted text calls on UN states to conduct financial investigations in terror-related cases and seek ways to better obtain evidence to secure terrorist financing convictions.
It also states the 193 UN nations must ensure their domestic laws and regulations are sufficient to prosecute those involved in securing financing for terrorists or terror organizations.
The resolution also demands that all counter-terror measures comply with international humanitarian, human rights and refugee laws.
