US: Putin missile statement shows 'violation' of treaty obligations





Washington - Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed what the United States has long known about its missile capabilities when he showed off new missiles from the country's nuclear arsenal, the US State Department says.



 
"Russia has been developing destabilizing weapons for more than a decade in direct violation of its treaty obligations," State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said.
Nauert denied Russia's claim that a revised US nuclear policy provoked Russia to develop the weapons, adding that she believes the US is in compliance with its treaty obligations.
She also noted that with an election coming up, Putin was "playing to the audience to some extent" when he played a video showing the missile
