Wall Street shows little reaction after Trump nominates new Fed chief

Washington - Major US stock indices were little changed on Thursday after President Donald Trump named Jerome Powell as the next chairman of the rate-setting Federal Reserve.

The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.35 per cent higher about an hour after Trump's expected pick of Powell, who still faces a Senate confirmation vote, was announced in the White House Rose Garden.
The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 0.02 per cent, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index slipped 0.02 per cent.
