Brad Pitt has defended criticism of his new facial hair.

"It's fashion," he told People.com.

"Who am I without creative facial hair? I consider it very brave."

The actor first sported his new moustache this week at the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, having grown it for his role in Quentin Tarantino war film Inglourious Basterds, which he is currently shooting.

However, Brad seemed a bit miffed to hear that his friend and Oceans Eleven co-star George Clooney is also sporting a new moustache for his film Men Who Stare at Goats.

"I cannot get this guy out of my slipstream," he joked.

"He calls me up and wants to know what I'm wearing - and then he shows up in the same thing. Next thing you know he's going to have six kids. Just got to tell you it's getting really old."
