"It will allow all of us, particularly young people, an opportunity to learn more about the heritage and traditions of which we are all proud."
The royal couple plans to visit 12 cities and communities in four provinces, Harper's office said.
Heir apparent Prince Charles has visited Canada 15 times, with his last official visit in 2001. This will be his first official visit with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II remains Canada's monarch and is represented in Canada by Governor General Michaelle Jean. She is set to visit Canada in 2010, with the Duke of Edinburgh, Jean announced in July.
The exact dates of the visit, which will be the queen's 25th since she ascended to the throne in 1953, have not yet been revealed.
