"This information comes from a misinterpretation of the tenor's comments published today in The Times in which he says he will no longer concentrate his efforts on opera (productions).
"As opera and classical music lovers know full well, for years now... Jose Carreras gives exclusive concerts and recitals the world over," it added.
"That does not mean that he has given up on singing opera if the right artistic and professional conditions are offered."
The foundation said Carreras, who with the late Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo formed the "Three Tenors," the most famous trio in opera history, is "pursuing his career... totally as normal."
The 62-year-old leukaemia survivor was quoted in newspaper as saying: "If I can do concert recitals, adapting the repertoire to my needs, then no problem, that’s good enough.
"But with operas, unless the right circumstances come up, my career is done."
Pavarotti died of pancreatic cancer in September 2007.
"We were, without being presumptuous, the most popular tenors of the day," Carreras also recalled in the interview.
