"It was fantastic to be involved," Crown Prince Frederik told reporters shortly after the birth, describing it as "a miracle times two."
"We are overjoyed. We could not be happier," said the prince, 42, who is first in line to succeed his mother Queen Margrethe II to the throne.
Frederik and Australian-born Mary, 38, are already the parents of five-year-old Prince Christian and three-year-old Princess Isabella.
They met at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and were married in 2004 in Copenhagen.
