Ethiopian pop star Afro released from prison

ADDIS ABABA - Teddy Afro, one of Ethiopia's most popular singers, was released from prison Thursday after more than a year behind bars for a 2006 road accident in which a homeless was killed.
Ethiopia's federal high court last December jailed Afro, real name Tewodros Kassahun, for six years for manslaughter and fleeing the scene of a car accident, but the sentence was reduced for good behaviour.

State-run Ethiopian television showed footage of the 33-year-old walking out of prison in Kaliti, 14 kilometres (9 miles) south of the capital Addis Ababa.
Afro, who is associated with Ethiopia's opposition, was arrested in April 2008. He had pleaded not guilty, saying he was out of the country at the time.
Teddy Afro broke into the Ethiopian music scene in 2001. He has made three albums and a number of singles in various styles.
