Evita comes back to Broadway, with Ricky Martin in tow



NEW YORK- The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Evita is returning to Broadway in 2012 with Argentine actress Elena Roger starring as Eva Peron and pop star Ricky Martin in the role of "Che" Guevara, the producers said Wednesday.
The theatre where the musical about the late Argentine first lady will play has not yet been lined up, Hal Luftig and Scott Sanders said in a statement.

Roger will be coming back to the role she won raves for in London's West End in 2006.
"It is very exciting to bring this new production of Evita to Broadway with an Argentine woman in the title role for the very first time," director Michael Grandage said.
"With Ricky Martin joining the company, we now have an opportunity to make the production even more authentic," Grandage said of the Puerto Rican singer and actor who will play the Argentina-born Guevara who went on to become a hero of Cuba's revolution.
