Germany returns 600-year-old mummy to Peru

LIMA- Peru's president returned home from a trip to Europe Thursday with a precious piece of luggage: a 600-year-old mummy.
German authorities formally returned the relic to President Ollanta Humala during an official visit to Berlin, Peru's foreign ministry said in a statement.

Discovered on a mountain in Peru's Ancash region in the 1980s, the mummy was taken out of the South American country in 1986 under unclear circumstances, the ministry said.
It ended up at an ethnology museum in the southern German city of Munich, where experts determined it came from Peru.
Humala's European tour also included visits to Switzerland and France.
