Jazz saxophonist Bud Shank dead at 82



LOS ANGELES- Jazz saxophonist Bud Shank has died at his home in Arizona aged 82, a statement on the musician's website said Monday.
Shank, a pillar of the influential 1950s West Coast jazz scene, passed away on April 2, the statement said.

Friends of the alto sax player said Shank died of pulmonary failure at his home in Tucson shortly after returning from California where he had been recording a new album.
Shank's career also saw notable collaborations with Indian composer and sitar player Ravi Shankar, as well as a famous flute solo on The Mamas & The Papas hit "California Dreamin."
