The centrepiece of the show is Ghirlandaio's "Portrait of Giovanna Tornabuoni," which is part the museum's permanent collection.
It also includes a section on religious art that brings together panel paintings, sculptures and manuscripts.
The exhibition is open from June 23 until October 10.
The Thyssen-Bornemisza is considered one of Spain's three great museums along with the Prado and the Reina Sofia, which are also in Madrid.
