Indie veterans Suede won the "inspiration" award which was picked up by their singer Brett Anderson, while folk collective Mumford and Sons claimed the "best new act" prize.
1970s style symbol Bryan Ferry was presented with the "icon" award.
Rapper turned soul singer Plan B was named best "breakthrough artist," capping a remarkable transformation for the 27-year-old Londoner.
"I'm a little bit unaware of how big it has got until other people make me aware of it," the singer said.
Crowded House singer Neil Finn claimed the "Q classic songwriter" trophy while American punks Green Day were voted "best live act."
Ska-revivalists Madness were named "Q idol" and dance legends The Chemical Brothers won the "Q hero" prize.
