The book’s idea is reflected on black and white photographs taken for the seven Emirates, which the artist says would "stimulate the memory and nostalgia, and similarly highlights the aesthetics of the varied Emirati scene in each Emirate”.
"This continued work the artist started a year ago as part of her university graduation project is not only based on the black and white technique, but also on the use the so-called 'pinhole', the oldest form of known photo cameras," said Mr
Muhammad Al Shehi, Director of Publishing at the National Library.
"It represents a great technological challenge, particularly in the photo development process that requires special laboratories and special type of treatment. The result is having photos with special touches, not provided by the modern cameras. The pinhole photos present a different view of places and landmarks, so that these places, which mostly embody the development of the UAE, its growth and urban transformation, reflect the march of urbanization and the evolution of the UAE in a short period of time under the leadership of the founding father the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God bless his soul. His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, may Allah protect him, carries the message and vision of the late Sheikh Zayed," he added.
"At the same time, these pictures remind of the first pristine nature of these places and their roots that go deep in history," Shehi emphasized.
Artist Shamma Al Amri has accomplished the bulk of the work that relates to the selection of places and taking photos. She is now working to develop the pictures at special laboratories, in preparation for putting them together in a special volume that would be issued in a premium edition by ADACH Publishing Division "Isdarat".
HE Jumaa Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Deputy Director General of ADACH for the National Library Affairs and Projects expressed his satisfaction with this project.
"The project comes at this historic brilliant moment reflected in the 40th anniversary of the founding of our country. It expresses the policy that has long been pursued by the National Library, which includes looking for the Emirati talents, supporting them and providing all necessary things for them to develop and thrive to serve the process of cultural development and creativity all over our beloved country," said Qubaisi.
"This project reflects the remarkable unity among the seven Emirates of the country, and the creative diversity in their environment and atmosphere, which is embodied by this project in the highest forms and expressions," he added.
