
The Secretary General of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Mr. Rashed Al Oraimi,
The Award’s Advisory Council’s recognition came due to the legacy of “Nahdet Misr” that extends over more than six decades in printing, publishing and distribution. The veteran House’s portfolio includes a massive variety of topics and genres, counting general knowledge and literary fiction, children’s books, books for children with special needs, and educational textbooks, in addition to a long list of renowned authors and illustrators as well as young authors from the Arab World. “Nahdet Misr” is also the exclusive agent of Cambridge University Press and Encyclopedia Britannica Online School Edition and enjoys an extensive network of partners in USA, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Germany and Canada.
The Secretary General of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Mr. Rashed Al Oraimi, also announced that the Award’s Advisory Council decided to withhold the Prize for “Best Technology in the field of Culture” again for the fourth year in a row. Al Oraimi explained that the submitted works did not fulfill the necessary criteria of the Award. “The Sheikh Zayed Book Award recognizes the serious implications of withholding this category for the fourth year, and is currently studying several options to renovate it pending the approval of the Award’s Higher Council” Al Oraimi elaborated.
With this announcement, Sheikh Zayed Book Award wraps up its list of winners for its fourth session for 2009/2010. Winners were announced in batches over a period of five weeks starting January 16th by the Award’s Secretary General, Mr. Rashed Al Oraimi, representing the Award's Higher Council. Each category has three judges specialised in the same field. The judges independently evaluate the nominations and submit their evaluations against a stringent, quantifiable scoring criterion to ensure the decision is truly reflective of their independent and expert views. The assessment results are then calculated for each category and collectively evaluated by the Advisory Council for the award.
The panel of six judges will remain anonymous to maintain the independence and integrity of the announcement process until after its Award Presentation Ceremony takes place on Wednesday 3rd of March 2010 at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, parallel to the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.

Ø Sheikh Zayed Book Award rewards innovators and thinkers in areas of knowledge, arts and humanities. Winners are identified through stringent scientific and objective principles to evaluate the merits of their creative work
Ø The award comprises a total monetary prize value of seven million UAE dirhams. Each prize consists of a gold medal bearing the SZBA logo, a certificate of merit. The Cultural Personality of the Year winner receives a prize of one million dirhams, while the winners of the other categories receive 750,000 dirhams

The award recognizes cultural achievement across one of the broadest and most diverse areas of any cultural awards internationally, including:
Contribution to the Development of the Nation: Consists of works in the fields of economics, sociology, management, politics, law and theology that contribute to the country’s advancemen
Children’s Literature: Covers literary and cultural works addressing various children’s ground
Young Author: Recognizes scientific, literary or cultural works produced by authors younger than 40 year
Translation: Includes translated works, either to or from Arabic
Literature: Represents works across various categories of literature including poetry, stories, novels and plays, research addressing literary theories, creative writings or works of criticism
Fine Arts: Covers books about various forms of art such as music, cinema, architecture, plastic art, calligraphy, painting, sculpture, photography and digital art
Best Technology in the Field of Culture: Recognizes written or digital works and researches which promote the Arabic languages
Publishing and Distribution: Includes publishers, distributors and research institutions which produce a diverse range of texts printed to the highest standard
Cultural Personality of the Year: Honors a prominent Arab or international figure who has contributed to the advancement of the Arabic culture, embodies through his/her work tolerance and promotes peaceful coexistence
