The film follows compatriot Emmanuelle Riva's best Oscar actress nomination for her performance in Michael Haneke's "Amour". Riva turned 86 on the day she attended the ceremony in Los Angeles.
Although Casadesus, a grande dame of French stage and screen, now says she finds theatre too tiring, she remains committed to film and television work and did not hesitate to accept her latest part.
"I read the script and said yes straight away," she told the France 2 television channel ahead of Wednesday's release, adding that it was not a sad film and that making it had involved "laughing a lot".
The Parisian actress who still lives in Montmartre where she grew up made her first film in 1934 at the age of 20. She will turn 99 in June.
In the last decade alone she has appeared in around a dozen films including "La Tete en Friche" ("My Afternoons with Margueritte") in 2010 in which she played a leading character opposite Gerard Depardieu.
