US musicians from New York visit Cuba: state media

HAVANA- US musicians from New York's Lincoln Center are in Cuba for a visit that will include giving music classes and repairing student instruments, state television said Wednesday.
The delegation -- the size of which was not disclosed by state media -- included performers from the Lincoln Center Orchestra, composers, and instrument technicians. They accompanied Culture Minister Abel Prieto to an event marking the opening of the school year with students from 46 art schools, state media said.

The US performers also brought musical instruments to donate.
The Lincoln Center Orchestra, led by famed trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, visited Cuba in October 2010, where they gave five concerts and met with local musicians and students.
President Barack Obama has sought to ease diplomatic tensions between the two countries, fraught since the introduction of a trade embargo in 1962, with the easing travel restrictions for Americans visiting Cuba for cultural, academic or athletic pursuits.
